Dreamtime Festival
Location and Directions
Location
The Dreamtime festival takes place on
120 acres of private land just outside
of Paonia, Colorado. The drive time from
Denver is about 4 hours. From Telluride,
Ouray, or Grand Junction Colorado, its
less than 2 hours.
Most participants spend the weekend camping at the site, which includes wonderful mountain views and mild nighttime temperatures.

Landscape
The backdrop consists of the tall peaks
and a fertile mountain valley. Each view
is a different kaleidoscope image with
light reflecting off and around the clouds
and land. The site is an arid-highland-desert
that burned clean in a wildfire 10 years
ago. Standing dead trees, some scrub
brush and grasses are almost all that
remains. The image looks ancient, almost
as if it were an elephant graveyard or
sculpture park. The terrain is uneven,
rocky and dusty. Please be sensitive
to this delicate desert ecology: part
of the Dreamtime vision is to restore
the landscape and create permi-culture
here.

Weather
Paonia is located in a semi-arid high
desert environment at an elevation of
about 6000 feet. Daytime highs in July
average in the upper 80's and nighttime
lows average in the mid 50's. Sudden
lightening storms are a possibility.
Those participants traveling from out
of state should keep in mind that the
elevation means a quick sunburn for unprotected
skin and possible altitude sickness from
overexertion, insufficient hydration,
or alcohol intake.
Lodging
Most participants camp on site. For those interested in nearby accommodation,
please see this list (we reccomend making reservations well in advance):
